It is with deepest sadness that we inform you of the loss of our mother and best friend Juanita Rogers who passed away on July 1, 2026, at the Lions Prairie Manor at the age of 85 years.
Left to treasure her memory are her son Ralf (Arlene) Philippi of Portage la Prairie; daughter Christine (Cris) Groulx of Goulais River, ON; grandsons Joshua (Autumn) Groulx of Goulais River and Jessie Groulx of Sault St. Marie, ON; nephews Dirk (Tanja) Deffland and Christian (Heike) Deffland of Germany. Extended family Stella (Ed) Stomness and sons Travis & family and Devin & family.
She was predeceased by her husband David S. Rogers; son Reiner Philippi; parents and siblings of Germany.
Juanita was born and raised war-torn Germany, anyone that knew mom knows that she was one tough and selfless soul, having cared for her younger brother and arthritic riddled mother as a child. She met the first love of her life, bearing two children to him; Ralf and Reiner. Life carried mom in a different direction. Years passed when she met her true love, Dave. Their ensuing relationship brought Christine “Tine” into the world, and it wasn’t long after in 1972 that mom immigrated to Southport, bring with her all three children and step-daughter Stella.
Mom had an adventurous soul. When dad’s military careen ended, they embarked on building a home from the ground up at the Peony Farm where they resided for 42 years. Throughout their years, travel was frequent and numerous vacations abroad fulfilled their lives.
The MDC brough mom a rewarding 25-year career. During her retirement years, besides travel, she partook in numerous crafts and settled in at Lynch’s Point as a seasonal before the 2011 flood took it.
Gratuitously, she cared for dad at home until his dying day at the age of 84, when sadly she collapsed at her home becoming a resident at the Manor. Many thanks to the incredible nursing team and health care aide staff who graciously cared for her in her final battle with cancer.
A private family burial will take place at Hillside cemetery at a later date.
If friends so wish, donations in memory of Juanita may be made to PAWS.
A tree will be planted and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com 204-857-4021
