Listen to Obituary

Suddenly on Saturday, April 25, 2026, Kendall Blight passed away at Portage District General Hospital at the age of 57 years.

Left to cherish Kendall’s memory are his siblings Kevin (Dorothy), Keri-Lynn (Robert) Pohl, Kam (Krista); brother-in-law Pat Simard; and their families. He will also be missed by special friend, Vanessa Smoke, and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Jacquie Blight; his sister, Kim Simard; his grandparents Wilfred and Annie Blight, Stan and Mabel Wylde; and his aunt, Evelyn Krauchek.

Kendall was born on December 5, 1968, in Winnipeg, fourth child of Jim and Jacquie. Kendall and his siblings were the fourth generation to live on the George Blight homestead near Oakville, MB. He attended grade school in Oakville and graduated in 1986 from Arthur Meighen High School in Portage la Prairie.

After graduation, he started work with Canada Safeway and then began his career in Sales Management with Radio Shack in Winnipeg, later promoted to the store in the Portage la Prairie Mall. In 1996, Kendall ran a small kiosk at the Mall for Mega/MTS. It was successful so ownership elected to move from the kiosk to a store front location in the Mall. Kendall was presented with an Award of Excellence in 2000 for achieving the Top Rural Sales of cellular phones in Manitoba by Audiovox Communications Corp. He was also presented by Motorola in 2002 as Top Rural Sales Representative. In 2007, the business moved to a strip mall on Saskatchewan Avenue. Kendall ran that location, as well as other locations as General Manager of Mega’s Mobility Division through to February of 2018. Kendall retired from his sales career and enjoyed working part-time on the family farm, Blight Native Seeds Ltd, until full retirement in late 2024.

Kendall was a very accomplished pool player who was considered back in his day to be one of the best players in the city of Portage la Prairie in 8 ball, 9 ball, and snooker. He and his teammates went to the Western Canadian Championships numerous times in Alberta and also went down to the World Pool Championships in Las Vegas. He was a Master pool player that had every intention of attending his Winnipeg Pool League Finals scheduled for the day after his untimely passing.

Another passion of Kendall’s was fishing, which began when he was a child under the guidance of his father. He had lots of great memories of fishing with his dad and brothers including the annual trip to the Whiteshell on the last day of school. He loved to be on the water and in the boat and greatly enjoyed the trips to Smith Camps at Lake of the Woods with family.

His love of pool, fishing, and online gaming were enjoyed with family and friends, too many to mention, over the course of his life. He was a kind, gentle soul known to many in the area.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Oakville Cemetery. Please see the tribute video below.

As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in Kendall’s memory to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 2300 Young St. Suite 1200, Box 2414, Toronto, ON, M4P 1E4 or the Oakville Cemetery, Box 88 Oakville, MB ROH OYO.
