We regret to announce the passing of Kenneth “Ken” Stelling on February 6, 2026, at the age of 91 years.
Left to cherish Ken’s memory are his brother Donald (Sandy) Stelling; sisters-in-law Jeanette Tindall and Gail Revis; nieces and nephews Kristen (Neil), Kimberly (Cazzie), Dana (Jocelyn), LaVonne (Scott) and Susan (Rick); three grandnephews Anthony James, Dustin and Tyler; and special friends who kept him young at heart and well supplied with treats and pizza, Jarett, Cori, Lisa, Nathan and Hunter.
Ken was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Millie Stelling (nee Revis), a “Southern Belle” from South Carolina who was a true beauty inside and out; parents John and Ann Stelling (nee Dykun); brother James Albert Stelling; sister-in-law Cecile Stelling; brothers-in-law Herb Tindall and Olin Revis; and nephew Adrian Poulin.
Ken was born on July 6, 1934. He had many good memories of growing up on the family farm in Margaret, Mb. His parents had a strong work ethic, which they instilled in their three sons. Over time Ken became a skilled mechanic, cabinet maker, carpenter and over all Jack of all trades. He earned a good living working in the construction industry. He also enjoyed giving freely of his time and labour and helped many young couples renovate their starter home. If there was a construction problem, Ken knew how to fix it.
Ken was a deeply spiritual man. He was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness and enjoyed sharing the Bible’s message of comfort and hope with anyone who wanted to hear. In 1962 he married a woman of like faith, Millie, and together they enjoyed many spiritual blessings. One of the highlights of their life was serving as missionaries in La Paz, Bolivia, from 1968 to 1972.
When health problems forced them to return to Canada they settled into a cozy little house in Portage la Prairie, Mb. Ken put his skills to use and turned the house into Millie’s dream home, filled with love, laughter and good times with family and friends.
Ken was a sociable person who had many friends, young and old. He will be remembered for his quiet, calm, humble nature, his wisdom and practical advice, dry sense of humor, sincere interest in others and his living example of faith.
Ken’s family would like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses and the Staff at the Portage District General Hospital, Gladstone Health Centre and Lion’s Prairie Manor, for the excellent care that Ken received during his brief battle with cancer.
Family and friends will cherish Ken’s memory privately.
Sleep Well Ken, until we meet again. (Job 14:15)
As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in Ken’s memory to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8.
