With deep sadness we announce that Lisa Barnes passed away on February 9, 2026, at Carman Memorial Hospital at the age of 46 years.
Lisa is lovingly remembered by her mother Jo-Ann Barnes and brother Kurt (Vanessa) Barnes. She will always be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews Blake, Arianna, Aiden, Alex, Nolan, Madeline, and Hunter as well as cousins, Becky (Trevor) and Sarah (Kenton). Lisa had a special fondness for her friend April McCoy, aunt Nancy and uncle Albert.
Lisa was predeceased by her father David Barnes, her grandparents Thelma and Jack Porterfield, and Blanche and Godfrey Barnes.
Lisa went to La Verendrye School in her younger years and graduated from Portage Collegiate Institute. Due to poor health, Lisa resided in her mother’s loving care. Lisa was a unique woman, with many interests and quirks. She was funny, had a wonderful laugh, and you wouldn’t want to stand between her and those she loved dearly. She enjoyed all things Betty Boop, Michael Jackson, Archie and had many Knick knacks in her collection. Lisa loved her pets and was grateful for wonderful homecare nurses who would bring their own pets to visit her from time to time. Lisa had a big personality and a bigger heart, and she will be missed and remembered often by family and friends.
The family would like to extend an enormous thank you to the staff at Boyne Lodge in Carman, Mb, and the staff at Carman Memorial Hospital for their incredible care and compassion.
A private service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Lisa’s name to PAWS (Portage Animal Welfare Society), Services for Seniors in Portage la Prairie, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 65.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
