Lynn Miller

October 1, 1944 — April 22, 2017

Lynn Christina Miller (nee Hempstock)

Peacefully, on Saturday, April 22, 2017 with family by her side, Lynn Christina Miller left this place to join her loved ones above.

Predeceased by her parents Chuck and Muriel Hempstock, daughter-in-law Patricia Miller, and partner of many happy years Orville Wagner, she is survived by her loving family. She was the proud mother of Danny Miller, Mitchell (Alana) Miller, and Allan Miller, and of her seven grandchildren Kelsey, Reese, Riley, Breanna, Mackenzie, Cameron and Kari.

Mourning her loss are her sister Doreen (Ken) Brauen, brothers Bob (Jean) Hempstock, and John (Nancy) Hempstock, many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends who were all very special to her.

Born in Biggleswade, England, Lynn came to Canada while only a baby. She lived her childhood days in Souris, MB, and moved to Portage la Prairie as a teenager. She married Art Miller and they raised their three boys on the farm near Oakville.

Lynn worked a short time for the City of Portage la Prairie before getting married, spent 12 years at home raising their family, worked a short time for the Department of Agriculture, and was employed for 30 years at the Agassiz Youth Centre in Portage. Upon her retirement, she tried out her sales side by   working for  Appelt’s  Jewelry and Vandenberg’s Fine jewelry.  She also helped with some cemetery / computer work for McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.  Lynn’s secretarial training after high school served her well for many years.

Lynn was able to laugh at herself and her idiosyncrasies. She loved being with people, but enjoyed her “quiet times”. She spent her retirement years with Orville Wagner, her partner and friend, and they enjoyed many wonderful friendships, interesting travels and fun commitments together.

Lynn always liked volunteering at the William Glesby Centre, and at her church, St. Mary’s la Prairie, and in earlier years at different events in Portage. She especially liked it when Orville and she volunteered together.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 2:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, Portage la Prairie, MB, with Rev. John Dolloff officiating.  Private family interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Community Foundation of Portage & District, 11-2nd Street NE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0R8, St. Mary’s la Prairie Anglican Church, 36 2 St SW, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 2A1, the William Glesby Centre, 11 2 St NE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1R8, or to a charity of one’s choice.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel.
