Maisie Loraine Moon

Peacefully on Friday, December 19, 2025, mom passed away at the Douglas Campbell Lodge at the age of 97 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Dawn (George) Smith; granddaughters Cheryl (Darren) Boutang and Andrea Smith (Chris Tinkler); great granddaughters Paige and Leah Boutang; along with many extended family and close friends. She was predeceased by her husband Bud Moon of Portage in 1982.

Mom was born in Brandon on June 20, 1928, and moved to Saskatoon where she met dad while he was working there. They married on August 20, 1949, and moved back to Portage where she resided in the house they built for 73 years. They toured the U.S. on their Harley Davidson, which started a lifetime love of riding.

Mom worked at several businesses in Portage but was best known for being a “Brown Owl”. She was involved with Brownies and Girl Guides for over 80 years. She was actively involved in the community and received the Citizen of the Year award in 1996 and the Premier’s Volunteer Service Award in 1997. The PDGH Hospital Foundation was also an organization she volunteered with.

Mom had many passions in her life. Besides her family, she loved riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles with dad, Coca Cola, knitting, and watching all sports on TV, especially hockey.

Mom was a wonderful mother and an amazing grandmother. She spent lots of time with her girls and attended as many of their activities as possible.

As her body began failing her, she moved into Douglas Campbell where she made many friends and was loved and cared for by the angels who work there. Thank you to everyone there.

Memorial service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel at 1:00 pm.
