Marion Thompson

May 29, 1927 — October 8, 2025

With her family by her side, Marion Thompson passed away on October 8th, 2025, at the Douglas Campbell Lodge at the age of 98 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Donald Thompson of Vancouver, BC, Robert (Yvonne) Thompson of Cornwall, England, Glenn (Val) Thompson of Winnipeg and Valerie (Troy) Capri of Stonewall; grandchildren Geoff (Carly) Thompson, Scott (Danielle), Michael (Rita) Thompson, Nicole Capri, Daniel Capri and Laina Capri along with her dearest friend Florence Jackson. She was predeceased by her husband Ted (Theodore) Thompson, parents Marion and Ernest Gibson and siblings Forsyth Gibson and James Gibson.

Marion was born in Hamilton, Scotland in 1927 to Ernest and Marion Gibson. She was the youngest of three children, with two older brothers: Forsyth and Jim. During the war years, Marion and her mother lived with her grandparents, who sadly passed away during that time. In 1948, Marion and her mother immigrated to Portage la Prairie, where she began working at a local bank. Two years later, in October 1950, she married the love of her life, Ted. Together they build a home at Thompson’s Corner, sharing the farm property with Ted’s parents. Marion and Ted raised four children there and shared a full and happy life together until Ted’s passing in January 1983.

Marion remained on the family farm for many years before eventually moving into Portage. She was active in her community throughout her life. She was a longtime member of the High Bluff United Church Women (UCW), and later after her move, a dedicated member of the Rebekahs. She also volunteered for several years at the Herman Prior Center, offering her time and kindness to others.

Marion loved to travel and enjoyed exploring Canada from coast to coast on bus tours with friends. She had a deep appreciation for the arts, especially live theatre and the symphony. Time spent at the lake was among her greatest joys. She loved being by the water, relaxing in nature and sharing laughter with friends over a game of cards.

Family meant everything to Marion. She was a proud and loving mother, grandmother to five grandchildren, and great-grandmother to one cherished great-granddaughter. Throughout her life she was also a devoted animal lover and shared her home with many beloved dogs. Marion will be remembered for her warmth, generosity and gentle spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A special thanks to the staff at the Douglas Campbell Lodge for their loving care.

Marion’s family will celebrate her life privately.

As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Marion may be made to any animal shelter.
