With her family by her side, Marlene Hofer peacefully passed away in her home on July 29, 2026, at the age of 53. Born on January 8, 1973, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Marlene was raised in Broad Valley Hutterite Colony. A few years after leaving the colony with her family, she met the love of her life, David. They were married on June 6, 1994, and shared 32 beautiful years of marriage, remaining devoted to one another through every journey God placed before them.
Marlene and David began building their life together in St. François Xavier. Over the next 32 years, they raised three children, co-owned and grew their company, Hawkeye Construction, and built four homes filled with cherished memories. In their precious free time, Marlene and David loved sharing meals out, camping, and taking road trips together.
Marlene possessed an endless amount of kindness and patience; she was always ready to help anyone in need. She was a woman of immense determination, drive, and an unmatched work ethic. While she co-managed a business, she spent most of her life as a dedicated and devoted stay-at-home mom, lovingly caring for her own children while acting as a second mom to her nieces and nephews, as well as many neighbourhood kids. Marlene filled her home with life and joy, constantly busy in the kitchen cooking full-course meals and baking sweet treats for family and friends. She was also a skilled knitter, gardener and scrapbooker who treasured every moment spent with loved ones. Above all, her deep faith and connection with Christ were the foundation of her life.
Marlene will be dearly missed by her husband David; three children Salena, Sheldon, and Kathryn (Dylan); beloved grandchild Colter; parents Eddy and Kathy Wipf; siblings Sharon (Leonard), Michael (Margaret), Eddy (Wanda), Stacy (Brad), and Dale (Safari); as well as her brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousin, aunties, uncles and countless friends.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Southern Health Palliative team, the ALS Society, Deer Lodge Centre, homecare providers, her caregivers, and the many doctors and nurses at Grace Hospital who helped them navigate this journey. They also deeply appreciate the immense generosity and kindness of the friends and family who visited Marlene and supported them during this difficult time.
