On August 14th, with family by his side, our son, father, husband, brother, nephew and friend, passed away at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 44 years.

Mervin will be greatly missed by his children, Dillon, Darnell, Mervin Jr. Julian, Shanikwa & Tai; his wife of 20+ years Melvina Ballantyne; sisters Tannis and Amanda; brothers Shaun and Ethan; nieces Khloe and Bella; his two grandbabies Ezra and Lakodan and his father Mervin Roulette as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Mervin was predeceased by his two babies Benjamin and Elizabeth; mother Rita Meeches; sisters Roxanne, Joanna and Shanna; maternal grandparents Herbert Daniels and Gladys Meeches; paternal grandparents Alfred and Mabel Roulette; aunts Debbie, Doreen, Pauline, Gloria and Cecelia; uncles Morris, Russell, Earl, Alvin and Allen; and cousins Melodie and Selina.

Merv graduated from Yellowquill College with his mature 12 diploma. In his younger years he attended schools in Brandon and Portage la Prairie. Mervin also went to Brandon residential school. He had odd jobs throughout his life span including landscaping, construction, gas jockey, worked at our Crescent Café, carpentry, and security. Merv always had a good time when he was out with his friends. Anyone who knew him knows he was always smiling and laughing. It was always a joy to be around Merv as he lit up the room.

Wake will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Long Plain Sprit Lodge beginning at 4:00 pm, Feast and Service will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 beginning at noon. Burial will follow at the Dauphin Myerion Cemetery.

The family would like to thank everyone who helped with the fire, sending condolences, cooking and taking food to Merv’s boys.
