Morris Bobei passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 85 years.

Morris is survived by his loving wife Bernice of 60 years; also his children Howard (Pat) of Winnipeg, Rick of Portage, Brenda (Neal) of Portage and Brent of Portage; grandchildren Raini, Deven, Hayden, Eliza Jane; niece Diane (Walter) Saranchuk and great nieces and nephews Susanne, Angela, Jeff, Steven, Michael and Mark.  He was predeceased by his parents Ustyna and Peter Bobei; brothers Michael (Helen), Wesley; sister Anna (at infancy) and nephew Orest Bobei.

Morris was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on January 22, 1936 and was raised on the farm in the Spruce Creek District in the Dauphin area.  During his young years he attended Spruce Creek and Halley Schools and then moved to Dauphin and attended Smith Jackson  school and Dauphin Collegiate (DCTI).  While attending DCTI he began playing football and developed a great love for football.  Completing high school in 1956, he immediately began working for the Department of Highways (Engr. Div.) in Dauphin.  He got a transfer to Bridges and Structures in Winnipeg in 1960 under constructions.  While working on a bridge construction job in the Carman area, Morris met the love of his life Bernice and they got married in 1961.  Bridge inspection was required working throughout Manitoba (nomadic life style) for a while and then settled down in Oakville area for children’s schooling.  Moved to Portage in 1982 and then made a move to Dauphin in 1992, then retired in 1993 after 37 years employment with Manitoba Department of Highways.  Finally made a move back to Portage and 2003 and settled in the Windsor Park Estates (Senior Complex).

Morris and Bernice have done some travelling, making 3 different trips to Florida to visit friends in Boca Raton.  While being there, they went to Disney World, Kennedy Space Center, Florida Keys and out to Key West and the Florida Everglades.  They also made a trip during this time to Cartersville, Georgia to visit friends also went to Nashville to attend a Opry.  Then went to Graceland in Memphis to see Elvis Pressley’s home site.  Morris loved watching football and curling, participating in senior 5 pin bowling, some golfing and gardening.  His most enjoyable time was to listen to music of Ukrainian Polkas and Old Time Waltzs, he would sit and listen to it for hours.

The family would like to thank the following: Dr. Michael Gray and Nurse April, Dr. Kinnear and the Chemo nursing staff at the Portage District General Hospital, Dr. Lin Yan at Manitoba CancerCare, Dr. Herman Lam at the renal clinic, Dr. Charles Bernstein at HSC, McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, and all nursing staff on ETU for the care and compassion for our Dad.

A come-and-go viewing will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Monday, October 25, 2021 from 6:00 to -8:00pm.
