Paulette Lorraine Guiboche (nee Baril)

May 12, 1941 — February 6, 2026

Paulette Guiboche, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026 at Lions Prairie Manor, at the age of 84 years.

Paulette was born on May 12, 1941, on her way to the hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba - a story she loved to share, as she was born in the truck along the way. She was raised in St. Jean Baptiste and later moved to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, where she began nursing school and built her life.

Paulette devoted her entire career to nursing as a psychiatric nurse, spending most of her working years at the Manitoba Developmental Centre. Her compassion, patience, and dedication left a lasting impact on the lives of those she cared for and worked alongside. Many colleagues fondly recalled her professionalism, quiet strength, and grace.

She met Jean (John) Guiboche while attending nursing school, and they were married on August 22, 1970. Together they raised two daughters, Christina and Natalie, in Portage la Prairie. Paulette lived there for the majority of her life, spending her final years at Dufferin Villa and later Lions Prairie Manor.

Paulette was predeceased by her parents, Pierre and Graziella Baril; her husband of 33 years, John; and her brothers, Marcel (Verna) Baril and Bernard (Bibiane) Baril.

She is survived by her daughter Christina (Scott) Robertson and her grandsons Daylan, Logan (Emily), Landan, and Tyran, as well as her great-granddaughter Charlie. She is also survived by her daughter Natalie (Ryan) Harrison and grandchildren Avery and Ashton. Paulette was a proud and loving mother and grandmother, her family was the center of her life. She loved spending time with them, playing games, attending their many hockey games, soccer games, and other activities. She cherished her trips to Sandy Lake, British Columbia and Las Vegas with them.

She is also survived by her siblings, Edmond Baril, Guy (Terry) Baril, Juliette Blouin, Yvette (Bob) Sabourin, Lucette (Ernie) McLean, Lorette Rempel, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, as well as extended family and friends. She treasured gatherings with her and John’s families filled with good food, dancing and warm conversation.

Paulette is also survived by her loving special friend Bill, whom she met later in life while living at Dufferin Villa. She found great joy in spending time with Bill and his welcoming family - talking, laughing, playing cards, and cheering on the Blue Jays and the Jets together.

Her interests included listening to music (especially Elvis), dancing, reading, walking, watching movies, travelling, visiting casinos, and playing Words With Friends and Candy Crush. She will be remembered for her caring, giving, and compassionate nature; her deep love for family and friends; and her fun-loving sense of humour. Her life was filled with love, gratitude, kindness, and laughter, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A private family interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Paulette to Sunset Palliative Care, PO Box 92, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3B2.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
