Gordon Perry Robinson

With family at his side, Perry Robinson passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010 in the St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg at the age of 64 years.

Perry will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife Janice of 39 years, daughter Tracy (Jonathon) Romu of Winnipeg, son Drew (Angelie) of Medicine Hat, Alberta, granddaughter Leah Romu, brother Harry (Brenda) of Gimli, sister Barb (Dave) Kosick of Surrey, B.C., mother-in-law Dora Sprott of Carman, sister-in-law Judy (Bob) Rea of Prince Rupert, brother-in-law Rick (Lynn) Sprott of Miami and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Perry was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Anne (nee Ferguson) Robinson and father-in-law Walter Sprott.

Born and raised in Portage la Prairie, Perry attended PCI where sports dominated his school years, especially football, basketball and track. After taking drafting at Red River Community College, Perry and Janice moved back to Portage where he was involved in several business ventures over the next three decades including Robinson Realty, Perry's Auction Sales and Investors Group. A school trustee for 17 years and a city councillor for 4 years, Perry was always very active in the community. Many people may remember Perry coaxing just another bid to raise money for the Portage and District Art Centre, Fire Fighters' Burn Fund, Delta Research Station and Trinity United Church, to name a few.

In June 2004, Perry graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Certificate in Theology. Art was always a passion for Perry; he was interested in all mediums and all artists. Although no trip was complete without a visit to an art gallery, he particularly enjoyed and supported local artists.

Perry's children, Tracy and Drew, and their circle of friends and later, spouses were very special to him; he became involved in all of their lives and activities, encouraging them wholeheartedly in any of their endeavours. Spending time with granddaughter, Leah, and marvelling at each new accomplishment was a great joy to Perry.

The family wish to thank all the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for the wonderful care given to Perry during his 8 week stay and for the compassion shown to family members.

There was a memorial Service held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Trinity United Church led by Rev. Julie Baker.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Perry's memory to Canadian Diabetes Association, 200 a" 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6 or to Trinity United Church Memorial Fund, 15 Tupper Street S., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1W7 or to a charity of your choice.
