Listen to Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” Kitchen announces his passing on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the age of 82.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Corri Muir of Grande Prairie, AB, and grandchildren Connor and Cadence; son Tim; sister Marie Alford; sisters-in-law Dolores Kitchen and Marj Marsh; as well as many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife Irene; parents Ted and Rachel Kitchen; parents-in-law Arthur and Sarah Tomalin; brothers Don and John Kitchen; son-in-law Chris Muir; in-laws Dar Alford, George and June Tomalin, Reg and Donna Tomalin, Gerald and Renie Tomalin and Shirley Main.

Born on October 24, 1943, in Portage la Prairie, Bob attended Beautiful Valley School and Oakville High School. He began farming almost immediately after leaving school and continued to farm alongside his brother Don until 2017 when they held an auction and retired. He remained highly active around the farm and within his community. Farming was his greatest passion, second only to his family. Bob was the first person many would call when they had a farming question or needed a helping hand with just about anything.

Another significant part of Bob’s life was hockey. He was a goalie for the Oakville Seals and, later, the Portage Plainsmen Oldtimers. During his playing years, Bob won numerous awards, including being named the SEMHL Top Goalie seven different times.

In his later years, Bob frequently traveled with his sisters-in-law, Dolores and Marj, to Grande Prairie to visit Corri, the grandchildren and niece Christa and family. At home, he continued to maintain a very large garden alongside his son, Tim, and "garden boss" Marj.

Many neighbors and friends will fondly remember gathering daily with Bob at Kitchen's “Coffee Shop” to catch up on the local goings on.

Bob will be deeply missed by many.

To celebrate Bob’s life, you can join the family for a come and go gathering at the Oakville Community Centre on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 2pm to 4pm.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Bob’s memory to Oakville Community Centre, Box 344, Oakville, MB, R0H 0Y0 or a charity of your choosing.

A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
