Roger Normand Joseph Bruneau

C’est avec un amour profond et une grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de notre époux, père, grand-père et arrière-grand-père bien-aimé, Roger, survenu le 29 mars 2026.

Né le 8 septembre 1939 à Saint-Claude, Manitoba, Roger a bâti une belle vie à la ferme avec son épouse bien-aimée, Annette, et leurs sept enfants. Ils ont commencé leur parcours sur une ferme laitière et de grains au nord de Saint-Claude, qu’ils ont ensuite vendue pour déménager au village et devenir copropriétaires d’un magasin de vêtements local. Toutefois, la vie de la ferme les a rappelés et ils se sont établis sur une ferme de grains et de bœuf au sud du village, prenant finalement leur retraite à Portage la Prairie.

Roger s’est impliqué dans plusieurs organismes au fil des ans. Il a fait partie de l’Association d’inspection des troupeaux laitiers, dont il a été président, il a aussi été président du projet Grassland Society pour la recherche sur la gestion des terres agricoles pendant 17 ans, commissaire scolaire pour la division scolaire Montaigne pendant 19 ans, membre de l’organisation qui a amené la clinique vétérinaire à Saint-Claude, administrateur pour la construction du centre récréatif de Saint-Claude puis président des installations pendant 18 ans, en plus de faire partie du comité de la patinoire pour obtenir la glace artificielle. Il a été copropriétaire du magasin de vêtements de Saint-Claude, membre de la Chambre de commerce, du Club Lions, du hockey mineur de Saint-Claude, du club de curling de Saint-Claude, pour n’en nommer que quelques-uns. Il aimait voir les choses se réaliser pour faire prospérer la communauté de Saint-Claude.

Roger avait aussi plusieurs passe-temps qu’il appréciait. Il aimait collectionner et jouer du violon, faisait partie du groupe Highway 2-240 et a remporté le concours de violoneux du Festival du Voyageur une année. Il a tenté de jouer au hockey plus tard dans sa vie mais préférait le curling, et il adorait chasser et pêcher avec sa famille.

Roger laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Hubert (Tracy), Pierrette (Roland), Estelle, Corinne (Shawn), Joey, Bertrand (Nancy) et Doris. Ses petits-enfants et ses douze arrière-petits-enfants porteront toujours sa mémoire dans leur cœur.

Il a été précédé dans la mort par son épouse chérie, Annette; ses parents, Félix et Blanche; sa sœur, Simone Rey; son beau-frère, Leonel Rey; et ses frères, Henri et Denis. Roger laisse également dans le deuil sa sœur Roseline Green (Gary), ses frères Norbert (Elena) et George, sa belle-sœur Hélène, ainsi que de nombreux neveux, nièces, cousins, cousines et amis.

La famille tient à remercier les médecins et infirmières de l’Hôpital général de Portage ainsi que le personnel et les infirmières du Pavillon Douglas Campbell pour leurs soins et leur compassion durant son séjour.

Une célébration de sa vie aura lieu le vendredi 10 avril 2026 à la paroisse Good Shephard, à partir de 13 h. Tous ceux et celles qui l’ont connu et aimé sont invités à venir lui render hommage. Pour ceux qui ne pourront être présents, le service sera diffusé en direct à l’adresse www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com. L’inhumation aura lieu au cimetière de Saint-Claude.

La famille demande que des dons soient faits à la Fondation canadienne du rein en sa mémoire.

It is with profound love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Roger, on March 29, 2026.

Born on September 8, 1939, in St. Claude, Manitoba, Roger built a beautiful life on the farm with his loving wife, Annette, and their seven children. They began their journey on a mixed dairy/grain farm north of St. Claude which they then sold to move to town and co-own a local clothing store. However, the farm life called them back and they settled down on a grain and beef farm south of town, eventually retiring to Portage la Prairie.

Roger was involved with several organizations over the years. He had the farm as part of the Dairy Herd Inspection Association (DHIA) which he was the president, he was also president of the Grassland Society project for research on management of land for farming for 17 years, he was a school Trustee for the Mountain School Division for 19 years , was in the organization that brought the vet clinic to St Claude, was a director for the building of the St Claude Recreation Center and then president of facility for 18 years, along with working in the Rink Committee to get artificial ice, he was co-owner of the St Claude clothing store, was part of the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, St Claude Minor hockey, St Claude Curling club to name a few. He enjoyed seeing things getting accomplished to make the St Claude Community thrive.

Roger also had several hobbies he enjoyed. He loved to collect and play the fiddle and was part of the band Highway 2-240 and won the Festival the Voyageur fiddling contest one year, he tried to play hockey later in life but preferred to curl, he loved hunting and fishing with his family.

Roger leaves to mourn his children: Hubert (Tracy), Pierrette (Roland), Estelle, Corinne (Shawn), Joey, Bertrand (Nancy), and Doris. His grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Annette; his parents, Felix and Blanche; his sister, Simone Rey; his brother-in-law, Leonel Rey; and his brothers, Henri and Denis.

Roger also leaves behind his sister Roseline Green (Gary), brothers Norbert (Elena) and George, sister-in-law Hélène, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Portage General Hospital and the staff and nurses at Douglas Campbell Lodge for their care and compassion during his stay.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the Good Shephard Parish, beginning at 1:00pm. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and honour his memory. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed live at www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com. Interment will take place at the St. Claude Cemetery.

The family requests that any donations be directed to the Kidney Foundation of Canada in his memory.
