It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Russell “Rusty” Chartrand on Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 69 years.

He leaves behind his loving wife Bernadette Chartrand, children Calvin Gabriel, Russell “Sonny” (Shavon) Chartrand and Daphne Chartrand, grandchildren, great grandchildren, stepchildren, adopted children, family and friends too numerous to name. Along with Russell’s siblings Doug, Sylvia, Stan (Joanne), Leslie (Carol), Karen (Chris), Garnet and special niece Ashley (John).

Rusty was from Pine Creek First Nation, he attended Indian Day School in his community and later attended Winnipegosis Elementary. Rusty moved to Winnipeg with his family where he attended St Johns Collegiate. He had dreams of joining the Air Force. In his early twenties Rusty eventually moved to Waterhen First Nation where he raised a family with his first wife Linda. In 1996, Rusty moved to Portage where he lived his remain years.

Rusty was the jack of all trades, he was the Mayor of Rock Ridge, bus driver, taxi driver; also he was a PNA at the MDC. He was a kind-hearted man who loved everyone and he devoted his life to serving the lord and made the world a better place. Rusty will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Viewing and Funeral Service will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 1:00 pm followed by burial at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
