She was predeceased by her father Charlie Hourie, mother Belle Hourie, brother Russell Vivier and sister-in-law Sylvia Vivier.
Sandra was born and raised in Portage la Prairie but spent many summers in Reedy Creek helping family and attending dances at the “Plywood Palace”. Living in Portage she had taken many different career paths. As the saying goes, she was a jack of all trades, but a master of none, she would tell you she mastered them all! The highlight for her was her most recent, working at the Portage Friendship Centre, it was where she was meant to be. She loved working there, she quickly became the smiling face that greeted you in the morning, and the sneaky buggar that always had a smart-ass comment. It also gave her a chance to work side by side with one of her closest friends.
Sandra’s pride for her children and grandchildren shined brighter then the sun. Any chance she had to tell people how proud of them she was, she did. Family tournaments became a regular gathering. Sandra would plan and prepare for them with pure excitement. The children and grandchildren would be able to take part in some friendly competition to be able to claim the trophy and bragging rights!
From growing up in Portage to living in Alberta she had made many friendships. These friendships would stand the test of time. There are far too many to name you all, just know that each and everyone of you are important and she loved you all.
Sandra was a hardworking, loyal, and loving woman. One of her favourite things was weekend thrifting at many stores across Manitoba, but when the warm weather hit garage sales became the priority. Her friends and family would often reap the rewards of her infamous treasure hunts.
Sandra will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her, when you find a dime on your travels, this is her dropping by to say hello!
A private celebration of Sandra’s life for family and close friends will be held at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in Sandra’s memory to the Portage Friendship Centre, 20 – 3rd Street NE Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1N4.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
