After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Sherri Helen Burton passed away peacefully at Portage District General Hospital on July 2, 2026, at the age of 47.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Sean Burton; her children, Natasha Rylee Burton (Myles Miller), Logan Beverly Burton, and Nathan James Burton; and her treasured grandchildren, Raine and Kane Miller. She is also lovingly remembered by her mother, Hilda Peters of MacGregor; her siblings, Rick (Carolyn) Peters of Steinbach, Rhonda (Brad) Martens of Gladstone, Victor (Raquel) Peters of Brandon, Wayne (Anna) Peters of Plumas, Yvonne (Justin) Fehr of Grunthal, and Jason (Amanda) Peters of Portage la Prairie; her father-in-law Gary Burton and mother-in-law Melody Burton of Sandy Lake; her sister-in-law Shelly Brown of Wawanesa; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
Sherri was predeceased by her father, Jake Peters.
Born in Altona, Manitoba, Sherri moved with her family to Plumas at the age of three. She was the sixth of seven children and was affectionately known as "Sunshine" by her siblings—a fitting nickname for someone whose warmth, kindness, and bright spirit touched so many lives.
Her journey led her from Plumas to Steinbach, with a brief time in Winnipeg, before she ultimately settled in Portage la Prairie in 1999. It was there that she built the life she cherished and married the love of her life, Sean Burton, on November 25, 2000. Together they were blessed with three wonderful children: Natasha, Logan, and Nathan. Throughout her life, Sherri's deep and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ guided her as a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.
Sherri graduated from William Morton Collegiate and earned a Business Administration Diploma from Herzing College in 1998. She began her career with the Province of Manitoba, working for Manitoba Housing before joining Crown Lands as an Office Administrator. She concluded her professional career as Manager of Administration and Finance with the Real Estate Services Branch, where she was respected for her dedication, professionalism, and strong work ethic.
Sherri was loving, caring, patient, resilient, supportive, and hardworking. She found joy in playing the piano, singing, reading, cooking, hiking, boating, and riding her dirt bike. She was actively involved in her community through Bagot Community Church, Manitoba Dirt Riders, Portage Minor Hockey, and as a board member of West End Daycare.
More than anything, Sherri's greatest joy was her family. She lived a life defined by faith, love, generosity, and unshakable kindness. Her children were her pride and purpose, and she poured her heart into supporting every aspect of their lives. Whether it was judo, hockey, soccer, basketball, golf, fishing, water sports, or dirt bike racing, Sherri could always be found cheering them on from the sidelines - or sometimes participating right alongside them. Her willingness to embrace new adventures simply to share experiences with her family reflected the depth of her love.
Sherri was more than a devoted mother; she was a safe harbor. Whenever her children came to her with a problem, she had a remarkable gift for easing their worries and helping them believe that everything would be okay. Her quiet strength, comforting presence, and boundless compassion created bonds that will be treasured forever.
Sherri leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, courage, and devotion. Her family was her entire world, and her happiest moments were those spent together with the people she loved most. The memories she created and the values she instilled will continue to inspire and guide her family for generations to come.
A celebration of Sherri’s life will be held on Thursday July 9, 2026 at the Glesby Centre at 2:00 pm, led by Pastor Michael Fehr. A private burial will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The service will be livesteamed, to register and view see link below.
