It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Stanley Brian Clarke, known to all as Brian, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at his home in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, at the age of 79.
He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Hilda Clarke.
Brian will be lovingly remembered by his brother Dennis, wife Sheryl (Chute); his niece Heidi Chuback and her husband Jason, and their children Reese, Grady, and Kate; his niece Kelly; and his nephew Travis and his wife Robyn, and their children Rory, Quinn, and Beau.
Brian was born on August 13, 1947, in Dauphin, Manitoba, to Stanley and Hilda Clarke. In his early years in Dauphin, Brian was active in Scouts and Rovers, played hockey, delivered the Star Weekly, and was his brother Dennis’ biggest fan. After he graduated from high school, Brian worked as a plumber until the family moved to Portage la Prairie. At that time, Brian began his career with the Province of Manitoba’s Highways Department in August 1968, proudly serving for over 30 years before retiring.
Outside of work, Brian's true passion was classic cars. Over the years he owned and cared for many different vehicles, and he took great pride in his collection. Fittingly, he leaves behind three of his most prized cars to his nieces and nephew, a lasting piece of his passion for them to carry forward.
Brian lived a quiet life devoted to his family. He remained close by his parents' side throughout their lives, always there for them, and that steadfast devotion brought his brother Dennis comfort in knowing his parents were always looked after. For many years, Brian and his parents spent their winters together in Texas in their motorhome, enjoying those years and making many great memories and friends along the way.
Family was always Brian’s priority. He treasured birthdays, holidays, Sunday dinners, and special occasions, making the trip to Winnipeg or Clear Lake whenever he could. Christmas was his favourite holiday, made especially meaningful by being surrounded by those he loved.
His love for family also took him to Dauphin to spend time with his cousin Jean Rudd, with whom he shared a very special bond. Brian took great joy in watching his nieces and nephews play sports, proudly cheering them on.
Brian was also a familiar face at daily coffee with his friends, where they would swap stories, talk about the weather, and solve the world’s problems, one cup at a time.
Our family would like to thank Bill and Cathy Skyhar and Kelly and Byrna McDermid for being such wonderful neighbours and friends to Brian.
Brian will be missed for his quiet kindness, the kind that did not ask for attention but was felt by everyone around him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on August 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Brian's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel. www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
