Stefan (Steve) Valdimar Einarson, age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12th, in the Baldur Transition Unit with his family by his side.
Born Friday, November 13th, 1936, in Lundar, Manitoba, Steve was the son of the late Einar Halldor and Svanborg (Eirikson) Einarsson. Raised on the family’s dairy farm, his strong work ethic began early. He attended a one-room schoolhouse, speaking only Icelandic when he first entered, and completed eighth grade before moving to Winnipeg at age fifteen to begin working — a start that shaped a lifetime of determination and perseverance.
Steve began his career working for George McLean Wholesale Grocers and later for the local car dealership for many years before becoming the local insurance agent in Oakville, a role he proudly held until his retirement in 2000. Steve and Norma later moved to Portage la Prairie, where he enjoyed many years of curling and golf. On August 19th, 1961, Steve married the love of his life, Norma (Tully). Together they built a home filled with laughter, loyalty, and purpose in Oakville, raising their three children — Alexis Einarson of Glenboro, MB, Paul (Catherine) of Montreal PQ, and Dawn (Kris) Falk of Cavalier, ND. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past August.
He was a proud Afi to his grandchildren Bryce (Hannah) Watson, Lukas and Ryan Falk, Zoe Wolfe, Philip and Sarah Einarson, and his great-granddaughter Nora Watson, with whom he was completely smitten.
A man of quiet service and steady humor, Steve gave back to his community through church and rink boards, coaching, and volunteering. He loved a good game of crib, a strong cup of coffee, a good visit with friends or family; and the company of dogs — and grand-dogs — who always seemed to sense his pure and gentle soul. They never strayed far from his side and, much like his family, knew how deeply they were loved.
Steve is survived by his brother Harry (Bernice) and beloved by his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings Lilja (Russell), Sig (Darlene), Baldur (Marilyn), and Oscar (Sonja).
