Peacefully just nine days before her 94th birthday, Stella passed away in her sleep in the early hours of Friday, January 10, 2020 at Golden West Centennial Lodge.
Left to mourn her passing are son Wayne (Karen), daughter Jayne (Keith), grandchildren Kim,Wade (Janet),Blair(Amanda), great grandchildren Peyton, Reid, Amelia, Kenna and Kyrstie as well as many nieces, nephews andextended family members. She was predeceased by her husband Steve in 2003 and grandson Keith in 2004 and eight siblings.
Mom was born on the farm in the area of Ethelbert Manitoba and met our dad near there. They married in 1944 and had a long and happy life together (59 years). Shortly after being married they moved to The Pas Manitoba and settled there until retirement in 1984 whereupon they moved to Portage La Prairie.
Mom had several jobs outside of the home but her greatest love was her home. Always decorating and changing things around my dad would always comment that he needed a compass to find his way around things. She was a great cook especially her Ukrainian dishes as they were a crowd pleaser to all especially the pierogies and cabbage rolls. Her pies were beyond compare and to this day we still call her the Pie Lady. Until not long ago she was still putting on makeup and fussing with her hair as she has always done.
After dad passed away mom stayed in Portage for a year and then moved into the city to be closer to her family. At age 90 her need of oxygen 24/7 and home care compelled her moving into a care home where she remained until her death.
We are eternally grateful to the 3rd floor staff at Golden West for the outstanding care she was afforded.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you.
I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2
