Suzanne "Susan" Schellenberg (nee Klassen)

Susan Schellenberg passed away July 2, 2026 at the MacGregor Care Home at the age of 96 years.

Born in 1929 near Aberdeen, SK and although the family moved to Helston, MB when she was a teenager, Saskatchewan kept a piece of her heart. In 1951 she married Aaron Schellenberg and together they faced life’s challenges and shared in life’s joys. Life’s path brought them to Portage la Prairie where they resided for the remainder of their lives.

Susan was predeceased by husband Aaron, parents Peter and Margaret Klassen and siblings Margaret, Helen, John, Anne, Agnes, Mary, Kathy and Evelyn. Only Betty and Gertrude (Henry) remain to carry on the Klassen girls sisterhood.

She will be missed by her daughter Dot (Ken), son Andrew, sister-in-law Barb and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom was a homebody so all her interests were based at home. There was always an ongoing project be it knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, cooking or baking. Mom was a passionate gardener but often had to defend her plot from Aaron piling bales on it, which he may have done on purpose, hoping to avoid the annual lecture of proper tilling which usually ended with Mom throwing her hands up in disgust and marching to the house.

We would like to thank neighbours and friends for the acts of kindness and thoughtfulness when Mom was still living on the farm. We are so grateful for the excellent care she received at the MacGregor Care home and extend our appreciation to all the staff for the they showed Mom.

In accordance with her wishes there will be no funeral.

As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in Suzanne’s memory to MacGregor Health Centre – Personal Care Home, Box 250 MacGregor, MB R0H 0R0.
