Thomas Norman

We grieve the loss of our husband, father and grandfather, Thomas “Tom” Norman on February 23, 2019 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 90 years.

Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marj Norman (nee Jackson); children Debbie Norman of Portage, MB, Bev Piebenga of Vancouver, BC, Donna (Bernie) Norman of Winnipeg, MB, John (Patti) Norman of Glenboro, MB and Linda McElwee of Nelson, BC as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Tom was predeceased by his son Tim Norman and sister Doreen Clayton.

Tom was born in England and moved to Canada as a young child. His family settled near Newton, where he grew up on a farm. He was employed by CN for thirty-five years. He married Marj in 1952, and they were happily married for sixty-six years. They eventually settled in Oakville, where he became an avid gardener and took up golfing, and hung out with his coffee buddies. He and Marj spent many a winter down in Texas enjoying an active retirement. Tom was a loving, patient man. He was a wonderful father and a devoted husband. He touched many people with his kind manner, and was always up for a friendly chat. Tom was strong and supportive, and would never hesitate to lend a helping hand. He could whistle like a bird, and often had a twinkle in his eye.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Portage District General Hospital for the wonderful care Dad received while he was there.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Portage la Prairie, MB led by Fr. Michel Nault.
