With sadness we announce the passing of Thomas “Tom” Thompson on July 17, 2025 at the Convalescent Home in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 85 years.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children Chris (Jill Milne) Thompson of Winnipeg, A-Lynn (Mike Goldhauer) Thompson of Winnipeg and Ashley (Roz) Thompson of Edmonton; grandchildren Conner, Eitan, Luke, Adë and Aubry; stepchildren Marcel, Larry, Michael, Lynn, Lorraine, Cookie and Lisa, along with multiple grandchildren; siblings Lillian (Paul) Delveaux of Winnipeg, Lorne (Brenda) Thompson of Grande Prairie and Elizabeth (Dennis) Isfeld of Scotch Creek; sister-in-law Nadina and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Tom was predeceased by his loving wife Alice Savard-Thompson; parents Mac and Eva Thompson and brother Bobby Thompson.
Tom lived his life full of love and kindness. He enjoyed a cup of coffee and a good conversation where he loved to listen to people’s history and their life stories. He thoroughly enjoyed these conversations and would remember them with awe that you spent time telling them to him.
He grew up in the country from early years in Glenella and Kelwood, then settled in Amaranth where he spent most of his life.
Here he raised his family and worked the family business of Thompson and Tychinski Implements, spending his days working and talking to the many people of the community that came in for parts/service and of course a cup of coffee.
His love for God and the Catholic faith brought him Peace and he was a solid presence at the church in Amaranth.
Tom and Alice had a wonderful life together in Amaranth, where they had the most fabulous flower gardens! Those that have seen them would agree. Thanks largely to the blur of planting, Alice and her daughters would do every May. Also, you can’t forget morning coffee and watching the birds that came every day to the Thompson Buffet.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg where he was very much loved and well taken care of. We appreciate all the tremendous care they gave him and their genuine love of all the people in their care.
Dad will be greatly missed by his children and many, but he would want you to live your life and keep making memories. Maybe you’ll meet again on the other side and over a cup of coffee you can have a conversation and tell him your story. I’m sure he would love that.
Prayers will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will take place at Our Lady of the Angels Church in Amaranth on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at the Sunville Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in Tom’s memory to The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, 276 Hugo Street North, Winnipeg, MB R3M 2N6.
