Wayne Thurston

Peacefully, with his family by his side, Wayne Thurston passed away on May 24, 2026 at the age of 89 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Judy; children Jeff (Arlene), Scott (Cindy) and Jan (Tony); grandchildren Matthew, Sarah, Patrick (Joanna), Tanner (Emma), Colby (Kyley) and Taylar (John); great-grandchildren Aubrey, Wesley, Austin, Nathan, Arlo, Abel and Bowen; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Wayne was predeceased by his sister Maxine (Peter) McArthur; brother Garry (Clarene) and granddaughter Kenzie Thurston.

Wayne was born in Portage la Prairie, MB on January 31, 1937 and was raised in Macdonald, MB. Dad worked in Winnipeg for 9 years, then he and Mom returned to Macdonald to raise their family where they farmed until retirement.

Dad spent his free time going to auction sales – finding treasures, traveling, camping, fishing, hunting, “crop inspecting” and having coffee with the guys. Dad always seemed to have that one thing you couldn’t find and needed; he’d say “Hey, I might have one of those” and sure enough … he did.

Dad’s family was his pride and joy. His sense of humour, sarcasm and quick wit have provided countless fond memories for us all.

At Dad’s request there will be no formal service, his life will be celebrated privately. He will be laid to rest at the Macdonald Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in Wayne’s memory to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 0K8 or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 40 Royal Road North, Portage la Prairie MB R1N 1R8.
