William George Klassen

We regret to announce the passing of William “Willie” Klassen on May 23, 2025 at his home in Portage la Prairie, MB at the age of 67 years.

Willie will be lovingly remembered by his children Scott (Jenny) Klassen and Jazmine Klassen (Jeremy Whitford), grandchildren Jamie and Makenna Klassen, sister Judy Weiler, brother John Klassen, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Peter Klassen, mother Tini “Katie” Klassen, brothers Jim Klassen and Ben Klassen.

Willie was a gentle giant, a voice to be heard. He had an opinion about everything and nothing. Willie had a strong work ethic, having worked various jobs with Wesco and Arrow taxi. He ran his own arcade and towing company, aptly named “Klassen’s Towing”. For a long time, Willie had numerous long and short haul truck driving jobs, sometimes even bringing his kids along for the ride.

Willie lived in Portage for most of his life, also in Calgary for many years. Throughout his life, he made many friends. Close friends he leaves behind are Martin, Steve, Chris, Bonzo, Doug and his niece Terry. He was a kid at heart, he loved spending time playing video games and computer games. Willie enjoyed playing DnD, hosting as dungeon master frequently. The whole crew would come over for a huge breakfast, and every spot in the living room would be taken.

He loved having Toonie Tuesdays with his girls, Jamie and Makenna. You could always see him ripping around town on his scooter, sometimes taking a corner too fast and putting it on 2 wheels.

Everyone who knew Willie is encouraged to donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or post a message of remembrance/photo of him.

Cremation has already taken place, private immediate family interment will be held at Sommerfeld Cemetery a later date.
