Wilma Tickle

April 17, 1927 — June 17, 2018

On June 17, 2018 at Health Sciences Centre, Wilma Tickle (née Hogg) passed away at the age of 91.

Left to cherish her memory are her 4 children:  Janis (Bruce), Lynda, Barry (Linda), and Brenda (Bernie), and son-in-law, Art.    6 grandchildren:  Gord, Kim (Casey), Rick (Michelle), Leanne (Chris), Cal, and Ashleigh.  7 great-grandchildren:   Skye-Leigh, Qwynn, Zane, Tehya-L’Wren, Lennon, Lily, and Wesley.  Also left behind are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Wilma was predeceased by her husband, Bob in 2005 after nearly 59 years of marriage, her parents, John and Mabel Hogg (of Warren, MB), 3 brothers:  Mervin, Jim, and Bruce, and 1 sister: Hazel.  Wilma was the last one remaining from that generation of the Hogg family.

Mom was born in Winnipeg but grew up in Warren.  She moved to the rural Portage area - Kelvin School District in 1945 to teach school.  At age 18, she taught 32 students in grades 1 to 8 in the one-room school house.  Even to today, she is loved and admired by many of her former students.  Some have remained close friends over the years.

During that year of teaching, she met Dad and they married in August, 1946.  They lived in the district for 53 years and loved being part of that busy and lively farm community.  There were country dances at the school, outdoor parties and wiener roasts in the summer, sports competitions with other school districts, and lots of hard work.  Mom was a member of the Kelvin Ladies’ Club for many years.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and crafts. She loved nothing more than when a neighbour would drop by for coffee and conversation.  Many happy times were had around the kitchen table playing cards and other games.

Over the years they took several long trips - 3 times to Hawaii and 3 times to visit son Barry and his family in Australia.  Locations visited along the way on these trips included Fiji and Auckland, New Zealand.  In Australia, they spent time in Adelaide, Gladstone, and Sydney, and also toured central Australia and Ayers Rock.

In 1999, Mom and Dad moved to Portage - first to Southport, then later into town. After Dad died, Mom moved to Stonewall to be closer to her daughters.  She lived there for 10 years.
