Obituary

With his family by his side, Andy Gagnon passed away on September 15, 2020.

Predeceased by his father Alidor, his mother Marie-Anna (nee Paul), son Norman and brothers-in-law Gerard Roy, Neil Gauthier and Pierre L’Oignon. He leaves to mourn his wife of 65 years Joyce (nee Byers), their children: Diane (Bill) Graham, Linda (Jim) Miller, daughter-in-law Carolyn Rae, Michael; and Daniel (Marilyn). Grandchildren: Kristin, Scott, Karen; Marc, Jacqueline; Heather, Dara; Drew, Shea, Cole and their mother Joanne; Ashley, Amanda; 9 great grandchildren; his siblings; Claude (Madeline), Gisèle; Alida, Denise (Denis).

Andy was born in LaPatrie, Quebec during the depression and was raised on the family farm.  He attended school in and around LaPatrie and later enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, serving with the 22nd Regiment (Vignt Deux) in the Korean War, being discharged in 1953.

In 1954 Andy moved to Brantford, Ontario where he met the love of his life, Joyce and they were married July 31, 1955.  They would spend the next 65 years together.  In 1957 mom and dad moved west to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba and Andy found work at the Manitoba Developmental Center and stayed there a total of 28 years.

Dad was a very capable handy man who enjoyed carpentry.  He was always at the ready with his trusty tool belt and would help anyone who asked.  His children welcomed his help with their many home renovations where he could add his special touch.

Dad had many hobbies such as fishing, camping, crosswords and auto mechanics.  His love of vintage cars was evident and he took pride in his 1955 Ford Fairlane that he kept in mint condition.

Dad enjoyed his 28 years of retirement with family and friends while away on many fishing trips, taking care of his precious lawn, or simply playing games like cribbage, dice and building jigsaw puzzles.  He always enjoyed the many visits from his grandchildren and followed their accomplishments with pride.

Dad, your work is done, you taught us well.  May you rest in peace.

A private family service will be held with interment to take place at Hillside Cemetery.
