With his family by his side, Leroy Smoke began his journey to the spirit world on Sunday, April 10th, 2022 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 53 years.
Left to mourn Leroy’s passing are his children Anthony O'Watch, Jordee O'Watch (Chantelle Rider), Harlee O'Watch, Taylynn Meechas (Duncan Atkinson), Leah Meechas, Grason Meechas (Shaydah Daniels) and Wendall Francour, grandchildren Nova, Lenna, Lennan, Leevi, Wesley, Pauline and Erin, father Clayton Smoke, brothers and sisters Vincent Smoke, Kelly Smoke (Gina Bilinski), Charlene Smoke and Heather Smoke, and father-in-law John Meechas, as well as numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Leroy was predeceased by his mother Geraldine (nee Bird) Smoke, half-sister Maxine Boyd, the mother of his children Lee Ann Meechas, brothers-in-law Virgil Chaske Sr. and Allan Peters Sr., nephew Wade Smoke, mother-in-law Pauline Meechas and grandparents Raymond and Victoria Smoke, and Violet and Joe Bird.
In his younger years, Leroy played baseball, hockey, golf and horseshoes. He travelled to horseshoe tournaments around Manitoba, including Birdtail, Pipestone and Dakota Plains. Leroy was a carpenter by trade, and he always helped out where he could. He was also the only member of the family that knew how to jig. He enjoyed playing cards and going for bike rides and he loved to play pool, travelling to tournaments in Edmonton, Minneapolis and Las Vegas, but he was always the happiest when he was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Leroy’s wake will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at the Dakota Tipi Community Hall beginning at 4:00 pm. Funeral Service will take place at 12 noon on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at the Dakota Tipi Community Hall. Burial will follow in the Old Sioux Village Cemetery.
