Peacefully, with her grandson Doug by her side, Margaret passed away at the Lions Prairie Manor on June 28, 2020 at the age of 103.
She was born Margaret Isabelle Thompson on January 20, 1917, daughter of the late Sam and Ogilvie Thompson. Margaret was raised in the Rossendale District. She married Bill Johnston in 1935and they lived in the Longburn District where they raised their 5 children - Shirley, Allan, Wayne, Sharon, and Edith. After Bill’s passing in 1978 Margaret married Elmer Taylor in 1980 and they lived in Portage.
Margaret loved to garden, knit and crochet in her younger years. She loved old tyme music and enjoyed dancing at the West End Hall.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, first husband Bill, second husband Elmer, daughter Shirley, son Alan, step-son Harvey, siblings Edna, Verna, Dorothy, and Roy and great granddaughter Shannon.
She is survived by her son Wayne (Loni) Johnston, daughters Sharon Johnston and Edith Johnston (Stan), 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great grandchildren, 3 great- great-great grandchildren, step children Marion Taylor, David (Andrea) Taylor, Kathleen (Jim) Sanderson and daughter-in-law Tressie Johnston.
Viewing will be held at McKenzie’s Funeral Chapel on Friday, July 3, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Funeral service will be held at McKenzies Funeral Chapel on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
